Le balene sono in testa alla catena alimentare e hanno un ruolo importante nella salute d'insieme dell'ambiente marino. Sfortunatamente la loro dimensione e l'aura mitica non le protegge: 6 delle 13 specie di grandi balene sono considerate in pericolo anche dopo decenni di protezione.  (fonte: WWF)

Gli oggetti di plastica come bottiglie e contenitori, entrano nella catena alimentare di pesci e cetacei.
Lo scorso 28 marzo 2019 ne ha fatto le spese un capodoglio femmina trovato morto sulla costa della Sardegna con 22 kg di plastica nello stomaco e un feto di 2 metri in grembo.

On 28 March 2019, a female sperm whale payed that price: she was found dead on the Sardinian coast with 22 kg of plastic in her stomach and a 2 meters-long fetus in her lap.
